Massive 28 Car Accident Occurs In Lakewood

A 28-car pileup occurred yesterday evening April 25, 2019 in Lakewood resulting in multiple deaths and serious injuries.

Speeding Semi

According to an article by The Denver Post, the crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. on I-70 heading eastbound. Witnesses reported seeing a semi truck carrying lumber slam into stopped traffic setting off a chain reaction that resulted in explosions and a resulting fire.

Scorching Temperatures

The fire reached a searing temperature of 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, as firefighters worked to put out the flames. The fire appears to have started as a result of the lumber mixing with spilled diesel fuel from the explosions.

Looking for Answers

Investigators from Jefferson County and the Colorado Department of Transportation are looking into the cause of the crash as well as continuing to identify those who were injured or died as a result of the accident. The exact number of those who are injured or died is still unknown at this time.
