Eisenhower Tunnel Temporarily Shut Down Over Crashes

Both directions of I-70 at the entrances for the Eisenhower Tunnel were shut down temporarily on Sunday after several crashes occurred.

Where did the accidents occur?

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) Trooper Schaefer spoke with 9News about the incident, saying that the crashes all happened inside the tunnel. Some crashes resulted in injuries, others just damage to the car and/or tunnel but no deaths have been reported as of yet.

How long did the closure last?

The closure was announced at 11 a.m. and ended around 2:15 p.m. with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) announcing the end of the closure via Twitter.

Did the snow have any effect on driving conditions?

Yes, since snow started falling on Saturday CDOT reported that there was a massive slowdown of two hours close to the city of Golden along I-70, with people being urged to go slow and use precautions (see our winter safety driving tips here).
