Big Snowstorm Snarls Denver Traffic

A big snowstorm swept through Denver on Friday afternoon, continuing well into the evening. The storm left roads icy and slick causing multiple accidents and closures to occur.

How many accidents were there?

On Saturday morning the Denver Police Department (DPD) posted on Twitter that they had 35 crashes just that morning, as well as sending out a reminder for drivers to go slow and leave enough distance in order to stop safely (get more winter safety driving tips here). DPD later upped the count to 80 crashes by the evening, as a result of the snow.

How else was traffic affected by the snow?

Multiple closures occurred with I-70, US 24, and US 385 being shut down from Burlington going east towards Kansas due to blizzard conditions and poor visibility. On Saturday reports of traffic going southbound on I-25 towards I-225 were affected due to snow and many vehicles becoming stuck according to a live weather blog posted by Denver ABC 7 News.
